4 Wheel Drive Desert Trucks - The Next Big Thing?

Four Wheel Drive Pre-Runner… yea that's got a good ring to it.

For as long as people have been driving trucks in the deserts of Baja the Desert Truck has long been viewed as a two wheel drive, and that's just the way that it was. Well I am here to say that the 2wd desert trucks days are numbered look out for 4wd!

Don't get me wrong 2wd trucks are fun to drive, you can get tons of travel out of them for cheap, there is no expensive 4wd system to break on you, and did I mention they are cheap? But the 4wd truck has so much more going for it. The ability to cross virtually any terrain, 4 wheels able to deliver power to the ground when you need it most, and the ability to pull your buddy’s out when they get stuck in their 2wd trucks.

Pro-4

For one example we can look to the Pro-4 race trucks of CORR. Undeniably the kings of off road stadium racing. What is better than having 800 horse power and being able to put that to the dirt through all four tires. In my opinion, there is not much better. The legend him self, Terrible Herbst, even runs 4wd on his SCORE Trophy Truck, as of now the only one in the class doing this. Does this mean that he is going to win every race, absolutely not, but he defiantly has an advantage over the other Trophy Trucks.

Prerunner

Now I know what you are saying, that’s all well and good for a multi-million dollar race team, but what about me? Well you’re not alone, many people want the same thing and the aftermarket has heard the crys. Total Chaos makes some great long-travel kits for 4wd Toyota Trucks and Dixon Bros Racing makes an awesome kit for 4wd Ford Trucks. So now what is your excuse? Your 4wd Pre-Runner can take you to the desert one weekend, the sand dunes the next weekend and up skiing the next.

So really, why would anybody want to build a two wheel drive truck anymore?
