Well I've been looking forward to this race since I jumped out of the race truck at the finish last year where we took 4th place! This event was Damzl's 2nd Annual all women's Off-Road Race for the Cure that consisted of 128 pre-entries. It is projected that the race will raise $100,000 or more which is 30% more than last year! All proceeds go to the breast cancer research center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. This event gives women the chance support the cause and to be in the spotlight of the Off-Road community.
This year Lauren Brogger & I had teamed up again to race the Beehive race truck along with a new co-driver, Stacey Barnes. As the time grew near for the start of the 1400 trucks to roll off of the starting line, Lauren & I put our helmets, neck braces, and gloves in place. Although we were 1401 in the Beehive Race Truck, Andrea Paiakis(1412) was first off the line up followed by 10 trucks. On our first lap around the 20 mile loop, we studied the course together since we never preran it and all went well which meant the next lap we charged it!
We had no radio communication in our radio-able helmet although we did communicate with our yelling voices; I had been able to hear a few comments off the radio speaker from the pit areas. The third lap we pulled over at main pit, Stacey took over co-driver seat and they shook down the truck then gave a "GO!" for take off. They did well minus a 9 car side-swiping the passenger side door & fender. We came in 6th place with 4 laps in the 3 hour time limit. This was truly an experience I'll never forget, thanks to the Beehive Sports Bar, Nick & the Tonelli family, Andrew, Giant Motorsports, and the rest of the crew! I can't wait till next year!!!
