The California Air Resources Board has gone too far this time.
What? They're actually trying to make it a punishable (expensive fine) offense to drive with your tires underinflated.
Yes, driving with underinflated tires does make your vehicle consume more fuel, and yes, consuming more fuel equates to more vehicular emissions.
That said, they're still going too far with this one. Do they propose to pull law enforcement officers away from fighting violent crime and have them go after you if your tires seem to be bulging out a little too much? Do they want to hire (using your tax dollars) a tire inflation regulation squadron to prowl about looking for people with squishy tires?
Driving with underinflated tires already costs more, so those with squishy tires are being punished at the pump as it is.
Government has gotten too big. This bit of asinine thinking by the C.A.R.B. is merely a symptom of a massive problem.
