This past weekend, there was an accident in Lucerne Valley at an MDR off-road race.
A crash led to some deaths and serious injuries near the Rockpile during last weekend's California 200 race. While this is not the first accident in automotive racing, and certainly will not be the last, we have to learn from these experiences to better prevent future incidents.
Off-road racing is a competitive sport that involves high speeds, and accidents are bound to happen from time to time. This is why it is imperative for spectators and racers alike to use common sense and obey race course rules to assume proper distances between trucks and people on the course.
The driver of the truck was not hurt in the incident, and the details of exactly what happened are being investigated now.
Staff member, Kevin Blumer, got to the scene five minutes after the accident, and will be making a full report that you’ll be able to read in the December 2010 issue of Off-Road magazine.
Off-Road magazine would like to express our deepest sympathies for anyone involved in this incident.
