Koenig Racing VORRA Hawthorne 225 Misadventure

When Tires are Tougher Than Wheels

This wasn’t just a race, it was torture. Team owner Mike Koenig got behind the wheel first with Total Chaos Director of Marketing and Agent Provocateur Nicole Pitell in the co-driver seat. The dust was almost unbearable. On lap two, as they were chasing down the leader in Class T, BAM!  A massive boulder shattered both rims on the right side, but neither one of the Goodyear MT-R tires was damaged. Talk about tough!

As Mike said after the race said, “My Goodyear tires saved the truck! Despite the wheel damage, the tires are fine!”

Mike got things fixed and was racing again when…another boulder took out the driveshaft.  After replacing it with the onboard spare, Mike and Nicole raced to the pit for a scheduled driver change.

Troy Robinson and Dan Brink got in, ready to make up for lost time and, of course, the right rear wheel studs sheared off. Still, Troy and Dan made it to the finish line in time to retain the Class T points lead.

Koenig Racing is supported by a crew of dedicated team members as well as Total Chaos Fabrication, Goodyear Tires, Curry Enterprises, King Shocks, Off Road Warehouse, Doug Thorley, and Desert People Films. BTW: Desert People 8 is out now--a great film!

Next races:

• MORE Powder Puff, October 8-9

• VORRA Prairie City Short Course, October 9-10
