I write this with great anticipation after posting SHANE'S ROLLING PARTY IN THE MOJAVE (current issue, May 2012, page 30).
First thing in the morning, we (my husband and I) plan to hit the road (freeway, that is), en route for our annual Mojave Road trip. As you can see from this picture, our truck, a 1999 Ford Ranger seen in Off-Road as Project 4x4Link, has some "final touches" to be made before our dawn departure. (Although this truck was overlooked in the April issue's project vehicle update, it is indeed alive and well, with the bonus of being homebuilt.) As we just heard on our honeymoon, "There are no problems in Jamaica, just situations." Well, with truck parts scattered across the driveway, we certainly have a situation on our hands! Sporting a brand new exhaust (that will probably still be hot in the morning), a revamped fuel system, a body smoothed by wax, and suspension components still wet with paint, our test drive will be driving home tonight. Hopefully all the stars align, as any hiccup could majorly delay our already-cramped schedule. As we all know, one bad ground, one loose bolt, one minor oversight can be the end. This is not how we'd prefer things to be, but planning (and having) a wedding combined with the usual stubborn bolts and delays of parts deliveries have resulted in the need to cram for the deadline. Maybe these are just excuses. The bottom line is that tasks truck-related take about twice as long in reality than they should in theory. (I'm sure NONE of you can relate to this!) One thing's for sure, though - the truck looks good! Fingers crossed she runs great and handles even better.
Check out last year's Mojave Road Trip.
I'm getting antsy to get my hands off this keyboard and on the truck! Better yet, I can't wait to feel the desert breeze tomorrow! Too bad we won't have our dirt bikes with us!!
Stay tuned...
